Frank and Ollie
Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, two of the Nine Old Men at the Disney Studios, were neighbours living in the hills of La Canada, Pasadena. Ollies passion was for trains, steam locomotive models, and he had a track to be built in his backyard.
The last time I went up to the hills of la Canada, Ollie and his wife Marie were both gone. It was autumn in California and a friend of theirs showed me around. The house was to be sold and the track we slowly went along were partly demolished.
Then I took the picture above.
Once Ollie, Frank and I had a lunch together. Then the sketch was done.
